Queen Anne Pickup Soccer

When: Monday Wednesday Friday. 1pm-3pm.
Where: Rodgers Park in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle.
What: Pickup Soccer Game.

There were days when I first started coming to this game, as I rode down the last hills on my bike, that doubts floated through my head. "Its really nasty weather out. Why am I on my bike? There is no way there's gonna be a game out there today." But sure as rain in Seattle, there hasn't been a day when less than 14 people are out there on the pitch, playing soccer on their lunch breaks or unemployment. So now those doubts don't come. Sideways, blowing rain? Soccer. Frost on the turf? Soccer. Sunshine? Very crowded soccer.

Just yesterday I counted 34 people on the field. And the game is played sideline-sideline on one half of a crowded field. When it gets crowded a group of about 12 break off and start "Game Two." A reprieve from the sometimes over-zealous crowd is a nice change of pace. But playing in the big game is the real fun. Cause if the ball isn't at your feet you might as well be doing something, so the fine art of smack-talk grows into a game as exciting as the football.

Welcome

This blog is dedicated to those who search for a purpose in the city as well as in the mountains. There are rich experiences available in these disparate realities, and I hope to express some of them here.
